Musical River Journey on the Brahmaputra: Celebrating Dr Bhupen Hazarika’s Birth Centenary / ब्रह्मपुत्र पर संगीतमय यात्रा: डॉ. भूपेन हजारिका की जन्म शताब्दी पर विशेष आयोजन

The journey begins from Guijan, Dibrugarh, covering the vast expanse of the Brahmaputra, connecting communities through music, culture, and celebration.
One of Dr Hazarika’s most iconic compositions, Bistirno Parore, inspires the theme of this event.
Inaugural Events
The launch ceremony at Bogibeel, Dibrugarh, will include activities to honor Dr Hazarika's artistic legacy and encourage young talent.
Scheduled events include an art competition, a quiz on Dr Hazarika’s life and works, and group dance performances representing Moran, Motok, Tea Tribe, Sonowal Kachari, Deuri and Gorkha communities – showcasing Assam’s rich cultural diversity.
Tributes by Famous Artists
Video tributes from well-known Indian musicians will be featured.
Notable contributors include violinist Sunita Bhuyan Khaound, music directors Dhrubajyoti Phukan, Amrit Pritam, Lohit Gogoi, Syed Sadulla, as well as celebrated artistes Ramen Choudhury, Samar Hazarika and devotional singer Anup Jalota.
Their messages celebrate Dr Hazarika’s universal musical legacy and his ability to transcend cultural and national boundaries.
Legacy of Dr Bhupen Hazarika
Dr Hazarika’s birth centenary is not just a commemoration but a celebration of a cultural icon whose voice became the soul of the Brahmaputra.
Known as Sudhakantha (Poet of the Brahmaputra), he drew deep artistic inspiration from the river.
Through songs like Bistirno Parore, he illuminated the struggles, dreams, cultural unity and humanity of the people living along the river.
Cultural and Social Significance
Flowing from Sadiya to Dhubri, the Brahmaputra is the lifeline of Assam, connecting its vast ethnic, linguistic and cultural diversity.
Dr Hazarika transformed the river into a metaphor for universal values like equality, justice and brotherhood.
His music elevated the Brahmaputra’s identity beyond geography into a symbol of cultural solidarity and global harmony.
About the River Journey
IWAI conceptualized this journey to retrace Dr Hazarika’s musical and cultural footsteps along the Brahmaputra.
The event acts both as a tribute and a living memory, bringing people together along the riverbanks.
The celebration will cover four major locations:
Bogibeel, Dibrugarh – 8 September
Silghat, Tezpur – 11 September
Pandu, Guwahati – 15 September
IWAI Jetty, Jogighopa – 18 September
National Importance
Dr Bhupen Hazarika was awarded the Bharat Ratna in 2019.
His music continues to inspire generations in Assam, across India, and globally.
The centenary celebrations aim to reconnect Assam, India and the world through his message of cultural harmony and the timeless voice of the Brahmaputra.

यह यात्रा डिब्रूगढ़ के गुइजन से आरंभ होगी और ब्रह्मपुत्र की विस्तृत धारा को संगीत, संस्कृति और उत्सव के माध्यम से जोड़ेगी।
इस आयोजन का नाम डॉ. हजारिका की अमर रचना बिस्तीर्ण परोरे से प्रेरित है।
उद्घाटन कार्यक्रम
बोगीबील, डिब्रूगढ़ में आयोजित उद्घाटन समारोह में डॉ. हजारिका की रचनात्मक विरासत को सम्मानित करने और युवा प्रतिभाओं को प्रेरित करने वाली गतिविधियाँ रखी गई हैं।
कला प्रतियोगिता, डॉ. हजारिका पर आधारित प्रश्नोत्तरी और मोरन, मोटोक, टी ट्राइब, सोनोवाल कछारी, देउरी और गोरखा समुदायों के समूह नृत्य प्रस्तुतियाँ इसका हिस्सा होंगी।
इन कार्यक्रमों में असम की सांस्कृतिक विविधता की झलक दिखाई देगी जिसे भूपेन दा ने अपने संगीत में अत्यंत जीवंतता से व्यक्त किया।

सुधाकंठ (ब्रह्मपुत्र के कवि) के रूप में विख्यात डॉ. हजारिका ने अपनी प्रेरणा इस महान नदी से पाई।
बिस्तीर्ण परोरे जैसे अमर गीतों ने नदी के किनारे बसे लोगों के संघर्ष, आशाएँ, सांस्कृतिक एकता और व्यापक मानवता को स्वर दिया।

सदिया से धुबरी तक बहने वाली ब्रह्मपुत्र नदी असम की जीवन-रेखा है जो विविध जातीय, भाषाई और सांस्कृतिक समुदायों को जोड़ती है।
डॉ. हजारिका ने इस नदी को समानता, मित्रता और न्याय जैसे वैश्विक मूल्यों का प्रतीक बना दिया।
उनके संगीत ने ब्रह्मपुत्र की पहचान को भूगोल से ऊपर उठाकर सांस्कृतिक एकजुटता और वैश्विक सद्भाव का प्रतीक बना दिया।

आईडब्ल्यूएआई ने इस यात्रा की कल्पना केवल श्रद्धांजलि के रूप में नहीं, बल्कि भूपेन दा के सांस्कृतिक पदचिन्हों का अनुसरण करते हुए समुदायों को जोड़ने के उद्देश्य से की है।

राष्ट्रीय महत्व
