भगवान बुद्ध के पवित्र अवशेष रूस के काल्मिकिया में ‘प्रथम प्रदर्शनी’ / Buddha’s Sacred Relics Travel to Kalmykia, Russia for Their First-Ever Exhibition

भारत सरकार का संस्कृति मंत्रालय, अंतरराष्ट्रीय बौद्ध परिसंघ (IBC), राष्ट्रीय संग्रहालय, और इंदिरा गांधी राष्ट्रीय कला केंद्र (IGNCA) के सहयोग से, रूस के काल्मिकिया की राजधानी एलिस्टा में 24 से 28 सितंबर 2025 तक आयोजित तीसरे अंतरराष्ट्रीय बौद्ध मंच में भगवान बुद्ध के पवित्र अवशेषों की पहली अंतरराष्ट्रीय प्रदर्शनी आयोजित कर रहा है।
मुख्य बिंदु:
अवशेषों को काल्मिकिया के प्रसिद्ध गेडेन शेडुप चोइकोरलिंग मठ (जिसे “शाक्यमुनि बुद्ध का स्वर्णिम निवास” कहा जाता है) में स्थापित किया जाएगा।
मंच का विषय है – “नई सहस्राब्दी में बौद्ध धर्म”।
राष्ट्रीय संग्रहालय की प्रदर्शनी में “बुद्ध के जीवन की चार महान घटनाएं”, शाक्य वंश की विरासत, तथा “स्थायित्व की कला – दिल्ली के राष्ट्रीय संग्रह से बौद्ध कला” शीर्षक कलाकृतियां शामिल होंगी। प्रसिद्ध चित्रकार पद्मश्री वासुदेव कामथ भी अपनी कला का प्रदर्शन करेंगे।

काल्मिकिया यूरोप का एकमात्र बौद्ध क्षेत्र है, जिसके निवासी 17वीं शताब्दी में पश्चिमी मंगोलिया से आए ओइरात मंगोलों के वंशज हैं। वे महायान बौद्ध परंपरा का पालन करते हैं।
हाल के वर्षों में बुद्ध के अवशेषों की प्रदर्शनी मंगोलिया (2022), थाईलैंड (2024) और वियतनाम (2025) में की जा चुकी है। रूस ले जाए जा रहे ये अवशेष पिपरहवा (कपिलवस्तु) से संबंधित हैं।
प्रधानमंत्री नरेंद्र मोदी ने हाल ही में इन पिपरहवा रत्न अवशेषों की स्वदेश वापसी पर गर्व व्यक्त करते हुए कहा था कि यह भारत की समृद्ध सांस्कृतिक परंपरा और भगवान बुद्ध से उसकी गहरी आध्यात्मिक निष्ठा का प्रतीक है।

The Ministry of Culture, Government of India, in collaboration with the International Buddhist Confederation (IBC), the National Museum, and the Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts (IGNCA), is organizing the first-ever international exhibition of the Sacred Relics of Lord Buddha in Elista, the capital of Kalmykia, Russia, from 24–28 September 2025.
These relics are being carried from the National Museum, New Delhi, to Kalmykia with full spiritual and ceremonial protocol, escorted by senior Indian and international Buddhist monks.
Key Highlights:
The relics will be enshrined at the Geden Sheddup Choikorling Monastery (“The Golden Abode of Shakyamuni Buddha”), one of the most important Tibetan Buddhist centers in Europe, opened to the public in 1996.
The event coincides with the 3rd International Buddhist Forum themed “Buddhism in the New Millennium.”
The National Museum will exhibit artworks titled “The Four Great Events in the Life of the Buddha” and sculptures representing Buddha’s life and Shakya heritage from Piprahwa (ancient Kapilavastu). A special section called “Art of Permanence: Buddhist Art from the National Collection” will also be showcased, featuring works by renowned artist Padma Shri Vasudev Kamath.
Over 35 countries will participate, promoting spiritual dialogue and cultural unity, with Kalmykia being the only Buddhist-majority region in Europe.
The IBC will unveil an AI-powered chatbot in Russian named “Norbu – Kalyan Mitra (Spiritual Friend)” designed to help users explore Buddhist teachings interactively.
Cultural and Archaeological Context:
Kalmykia’s population descends from Oirat Mongols, who migrated from Western Mongolia in the 17th century and follow the Mahayana Buddhist tradition.
In recent years, Buddha’s relics have traveled to Mongolia (2022), Thailand (2024), and Vietnam (2025). The relics being sent to Russia belong to the National Museum’s “Buddhist Gallery” collection and are connected to Piprahwa, the ancient site identified as Kapilavastu, the homeland of the Shakyas.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi earlier celebrated the return of the Piprahwa jeweled relics from Hong Kong, calling it a moment of national pride and reaffirming India’s commitment to preserving its spiritual and cultural heritage.
